Best Buy! Ryan Michael Harms of Oregon juggernaut Union Wine Co., also is a decade into the Christopher Michael Wines project that he launched with his brother, Eric Christopher. They’ve grown the consumer-priced brand into a handful of bottlings, three of them made with fruit from Washington state, while tinkering with the look of the label along the way. They’ve also been flexible with their Red Wine, leading with Barbera back in 2013. This time, it is Merlot (71%), backed by Syrah (15%), Tannat (12%) and Cabernet Franc that combine to make for a plush and pleasurable drink. A dense profile of black fruit, sweet baking spice, toasted wood and leather comes with ample tannin and bright acidity. The brothers seem to have dovetailed onto the success of Union with distribution in more than 20 states.
