This marks Joshua West’s follow-up bottling to his inaugural effort with clone 1 Viognier from the heart of Blue Mountain Vineyard, a 125-acre planting that’s about a mile south of Walla Walla Community College. This Rhône-inspired winemaker uses a long and cool 60-day fermentation leading up to five months on the lees in a separate lots of stainless tank and neutral French oak. Aside from a hint of caramel, there’s nothing but brightness and juiciness as lime, quinine and fresh-cut grass lead to flavors of honeydew melon, plantain and pineapple lead to a finish of lime pith and minerality. It’s uncommon to see Viognier of such quality at this price from a Walla Walla producer.
