Archery Summit 2018 Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills, $48

Ian Burch transitioned from Scott Paul Wines to Archery Summit in the spring prior to the harvest of this Chardonnay, and his knowledge of the Eola-Amity Hills from his time at Evening Land Vineyards quickly bears fruit with his first crush at the winery founded by the late Gary Andrus. The focus remains on Dijon 76 Chardonnay from Von Oehsen Vineyard near Evening Land, and while the barrel program was 18 months in barrel and tank for the 2017 vintage, Burch limited the aging time for this to 11 months, with 34% of the barrels new French oak. This is a classic North Willamette Valley style of Oregon with a continuous delivery of orchard and citrus as hints of Bosc pear, dried apple rings and tangerine are matched on the vibrant and refreshing palate. The finish of Asian pear, jasmine and lemon juice is ideal for salmon, ahi tuna, lentils or a garden salad.
