A blend from two premier vineyards – Klipsun (68%) on Red Mountain and Elephant Mountain (32%) above the Yakima Valley – deserves fandom among wine-loving Seattle hockey fans. Besides, it’s fun to say “Release the Kraken!” when pulling the cork on this. Westport impressed critics and consumers with a single barrel expression with these two vineyards from the 2016 vintage labeled MV Endeavor, which was the name of the Roberts family’s last dive boat in Lahaina, so its gold medal at the 2020 Washington State Wine Competition was no surprise. Aromas of black cherry, dusty sage, tobacco and anise lead to flavors of dark red fruit compote on toast, age-worthy tannins and a lingering injection of cherry juice. Now, the family donates a portion of the proceeds surrounding its Kraken to the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority.
