DANCIN Vineyards 2018 En Avant Chardonnay, Rogue Valley, $32

The Marca family’s estate on the outskirts of historic Jacksonville, Ore., features a clonal selection of Chardonnay, and second-generation winemaker Chris Jiron has woven them into a beautiful blend of Dijon 76 (75%), Robert Young 17 (13%) and Espiguette 352. Extended aging in a barrel program of French oak (11% new) creates aromas reminiscent of an early autumn day with the compelling noses of yellow apple and fresh peach with touch of honey. On the palate, think of grilled brûléed pineapple dusted with lemon zest and a dollop of whipped cream as it finishes clean and bright. It signaled one of two gold medals for Chardonnay earned at the 2020 Great Northwest Invitational by DANCIN — Wine Press Northwest’s 2017 Oregon Winery of the Year.
