Sedimentary soils make up much of the profile under the 55 acres of vineys at this Dundee Hills showpiece, but winemaker Bryan Weil also produces distinctive Pinot Noir from blocks featuring volcanic profiles such as Gelderman, Melbourne, Ritner and Witzel. His work here is opulent yet complex, opening with an attractive toast level in front of black cherry cola, plum and Marionberry with orange oil and nutmeg. Penetrating tannins highlight those dark purple tones that pick up blueberry and pomegranate before a bittersweet chocolate farewell.
