The impressive string of gems from Steve Lutz’s vineyard and cellar from the 2019 vintage includes this stunning tribute to his mother-in-law that spotlights his work with clone 115 Pinot Noir. These vines are nicely into their second decade of life near Yamhill, Ore., and Lutz allows the site to speak with unmuted complexity and approachability amid an unfiltered approach. This bottling opens with a fun greeting of cherry Fruit Stripe Gum and mocha that somehow includes Old World notes of truffle and saddle leather. Its velvety texture wraps around flavors of raspberry and Rainier cherry in delicious fashion that picks up a sense of earthiness while still hanging onto its finish of red currant.
