Portland-area podiastrist/guitarist Thomas Melillo creates a transition between his record company and his winery brand with Olea Vineyards. While he grows Pinot Noir on Parrett Mountain in the Chehalem Mountains, he brought in this Tempranillo from the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, achieving harmony with Cecil Zerba’s grapes. These two barrels offer an abundance of cherry notes, sweet herbs, a lick of caramel and nicely managed tannins. It’s approachable, brings pleasing barrel toast and finishes food-friendly juiciness. Among its accolades in recent months is a double gold medal at the 2023 McMinnville Wine Classic.
