Best Buy! Spain is among the handful of countries where Dyson DeMara continues to make wine, and he and co-winemaker Scott Kelley created this with an approach inspired by the roblé style of Ribera del Duero. As a result, half of the lot spent 18 months in barrel, the other half stainless steel in order make it approachable sooner with a more complexity than a joven – the Spanish term for young. They hit the mark. And despite the broader state American Viticultural Area listed on the bottle, DeMara and Kelley sourced all of the Tempranillo for this bargain from dry-farmed Umpqua Valley vines. The wine carries notes of dusty red fruit, dried herbs and light toast throughout as the red currant and Bing cherry flavors are lifted by tannins that offer a nice amount of grip for a variety of tapas. Even though wines with this construction and price point are not intended to be aged, with a just bit more patience, it’s a Temp that will blossom beautifully in a couple of years.
