From the start, the Fergestroms have been laser-focused on sourcing strictly from the Yakima Valley, which is where they’ve made their home and launched Fortuity Cellars on their estate west of Zillah. This bottling marks the first of three consecutive vintages during which they produced a trio of vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon from three of the state’s top sites for Cab — exclusive DuBrul, historic Red Willow and this effort from one of the Williams family’s prized plantings on Red Mountain. Emily Fergestrom’s career in marketing prompted her to brand this tier as “Destined.” And the juice in each bottle supports that. In the case of the debut HoTH, there’s a sense of classic Red Mountain Cab with early notes of dusty Bing cherry, sagebrush and freshly stripped cedar. On the palate, the cherry notes from the clone 8 Cab stream on through alongside Marionberry. It’s a stately red with high-riding cherry-skin tannins, mocha notes from the 18 months in 80% new French oak barrels, and lingering cherry juice acidity, making for an age-worthy wine.
