Best Buy! Ste. Michelle Wine Estates had scheduled to launch an innovative, nationwide marketing campaign for its young Liquid Light brand back in New York on March 12, 2020 — so many of those efforts woven into the ēlicit Wine Project subscription service didn’t play out as once hoped. However, Liquid Light has grown into a force with four bottlings: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and a rosé. The latter three each check in at 95 calories and less than one gram of sugar, living up to the “light” approach. And yet, this Chardonnay from the team led by Guy Barnes, with the majority of the fruit coming from the Yakima Valley, is not light on expression There’s a kiss of sweet oak at play, starting with the wine’s beautiful nose that hints at Ambrosia salad and cotton candy, followed by flavors of lemon curd, coconut, nougat and a slice of starfruit and melon. It’s a quaffer that’s also bright, lending it to suggested pairings include shellfish, roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, grilled vegetables and brie. And while the Liquid Light wines are available at Northwest supermarkets and Total Wine & More, there’s also home delivery in areas that use Instacart, Drizly or Vivino.
