Pharmacist/winemaker Jeana Steiner and her husband, Chad, established their Chardonnay vines in 2017 on their orchard and farm that overlooks Roses Lake just west of Manson, Wash. They refer to this neutral-oaked Chardonnay as “The Medicine,” yet this effort is reminiscent of a candy shop rather than a drug store. Its crowd-pleaser nose hints at banana Laffy Taffy and orange Circus Peanut candy with its tropical and vanilla profile. There’s delicious weight on the palate that recruits more of the banana, which is joined by pineapple on the midpalate. Starfruit acidity provides lasting spark to the finish. She bottled three examples of Chardonnay from the 2022 vintage — two others from beyond her estate — so it’s obvious the Steiners are inspired by America’s favorite wine.
