Washington’s Master of the Rhône reaches into the Milbrandt brothers’ Clifton Hill Vineyard just east of the Vantage Highway for this intensely hedonistic and darkly extracted Syrah from 10-year-old trunks. The nose of black currant jam, poached plums and blackberry comes with dark toast and a pinch of wintergreen. There’s a match on the palate, which brings a smooth entry and rich mouth feel. Marionberry juice joins the mix as the tannins emerge toward the finish to give it length and breadth. This wine is available both by the bottle at the BNU tasting room in Woodinville and in Prosser’s Vintners Village at the Bunnells’ Wine o’Clock Bistro as part of the Surfeit of Syrah tasting flight.
