Boomtown by Dusted Valley 2014 Pinot Gris, Washington, $19
The brothers-in-law at Dusted Valley continue roll out delicious, food-friendly wines under this nationally distributed brand, which is now handled on a day-to-day basis by Walla Walla winemaker Griffin Frey. They continue to adjust to the market as they increased production of Chardonnay while trimming their Pinot Gris bottling in the past two vintages. This example of Pinot Gris touches on many points, starting with a varied nose of tropical aromas of dragonfruit and kiwi, which are joined by fresh-cut peach, honeydew melon and flannel. On the palate, it’s a brilliantly beautiful summertime wine featuring flavors of white peach and Asian pear amid a clean and juicy structure that finishes with golden raspberry.
