Diversion Wine 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington, $17
By Great Northwest Wine on July 29, 2015
Columbia Valley winemaker Katy Michaud joined Damian Davis’ expanding team after Gallo purchased and shuttered Covey Run, and her expression with the 2013 vintage of Cab earned a spot in to the Washington State Wine Commission’s field for wines to be featured and poured at the historic U.S. Open in Chambers Bay. The nose of dark cherry and blueberry jam includes toasted oak and portobello mushroom undertones. It’s a lighter style of Cab on the palate, too, as dark cherry and plum juice create a juicy rather than tannic mouth feel. It’s pleasant and food-friendly finish is capped by dark chocolate, Rykrisp cracker and cola.
