Bainbridge Vineyards 2013 Siegerrebe, Puget Sound, $18
By Great Northwest Wine on September 12, 2015
Perhaps the most charming variety grown throughout the Puget Sound is Siegerrebe, a cross of Gewürztraminer and Madeleine Angevine developed in Germany. It translates to “victory wine,” and Cornell-trained winemaker Betsey Wittick continues her string of success with this bottling, which she harvested the same vintage she took over from the Bentryns. Fascinating aromas include candied ginger, lemon oil, gooseberry pie and Cannon Beach on a warm summer day. Inside, it’s a beautiful beach wine, luscious with orange Creamsicle and a sheen of lemon, then brilliantly balanced by tangerine acidity and lemon zest. Enjoy with anything pulled form the sea.
