Mork Wines 2017 Riesling, Columbia Valley, $12

Best Buy! The secret sauce inside many of Washington state’s top examples of Riesling is sifted in from the hard-pan caliche soils in the Columbia Basin’s Ancient Lakes. And the Seattle-based Mork family takes advantage of that for this beautifully made, consumer-friendly Riesling. Classic aromas of white peach, lavender and petrol lead to a delicious blend of Meyer lemon, Limeade, clementine and spearmint to balance the 2% residual sugar. It’s a fun wine from an exciting new producer who takes an artsy Norwegian angle to its marketing. Suggested pairings include pan-Asian fare, spicy curries, sushi or a plate of cheese and cured meat.
