Two years ago, Chelan Valley winemaker Jeana Steiner used Mourvèdre grown on the south shore of Lake Chelan to win the award for Best Rosé at the Great Northwest Invitational. This spring, her work with a 2021 Pinot Noir from the same site — Clos CheValle — merited a gold medal at the Cascadia International. She takes a regenerative approach to farming her vineyard overlooking Roses Lake on the Manson side of Lake Chelan, and her estate Pinot Noir program shows early promise with this rosé. She presents it with a wardrobe reminiscent of Provence, and her approach is energetic and reflective of nearby orchards as dried apricot and peach skin provide bookends to the palate of pink strawberry and rhubarb compote.
