A number of Chelan-area winemakers pull Chardonnay from this warm 5-acre site near the Columbia River west of Mattawa that was established in 2016 by the Wade family. Lagrioth’s Jeana Steiner used the University of California-Davis clone 38 – imported Champagne clone 95 – for this bottling that provides a tasting room experience to compare with the example from young estate Chardonnay program. It’s a two-barrel effort that showcases discretion when it comes to oak. Rather than toast, it offers marshmallow, gooseberry and dried pear aromas that are matched on the palate, which includes a slice of starfruit. The citrusy finish is joined by a pleasing lick of apricot skin and pinch of jasmine.
