For the second time in four years, this Prosser, Wash., winery with more than 1,300 acres of vines has produced one of the top Merlots of the Platinum Awards. It’s made deliciously approachable by Justin Michaud, filling the nose and tickling the tongue with blackberry compote and light toast, forest floor bramble and pipe tobacco. Cherry-skin tannins and a complex finish gather up orange zest and vanilla bean. Qualifying awards: Denver International (double gold), Pacific Northwest (double gold)
