Best Buy! Despite the scale of this production, the Campbell family and Heather Perkin — their winemaker for Pike Road — rely on hand-harvesting across the dozen or so vineyards they source this Pinot Gris from. Those include Dr. Robert Matteri’s plantings in Yamhill-Carlton near Campbell-owned Mount Richmond. There’s no oak involved, allowing for Intense aromas of sweet pineapple, pear and tangerine. On the very flavorful palate, those notes are joined by juicy white peach and a pinch of ginger spice. Last fall, this reached the sweepstakes as the Best White Wine at the 11th annual Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition, a judging staged on behalf of wine merchants in Hood River, Ore. Its showing was no fluke. The Pike Road 2016 Pinot Gris won Best of Show at The Invite in 2017.
