Seven of Hearts 2014 Pinot Gris, Oregon, $18
Vigna Giovanni Vineyard in the North Willamette Valley sub-app of Yamhill-Carlton accounts for one of Byron Dooley’s vineyard-designate Pinot Noir, and here he blends its Pinot Gris with that of Rattlesnake Road Vineyard in Eastern Oregon for a rather fascinating and complex white. The treatment includes 75% in neutral French oak, which explains the aromas of Big Hunk candy bar and marshmallow, along with lime and apple blossom. Crisp acidity reigns from start to finish on the palate that opens with melon and lime, followed by Meyer lemon juice and starfruit. Lemon pith in the finish makes this an ideal pairing with seafood.
