As Precept’s director of Idaho winemaking, he has supported Meredith Smith’s stunning pink program at Sawtooth, starting with Cinsault from 2013 and recently Grenache. For his latest release at Canoe Ridge Vineyard, Murray led with Grenache (64%) and incorporated Roussanne (23%) and Counoise (8%) with a dash of Lemberger (5%), and the attraction begins with its light strawberry color. Aromas of cherry juice, dried cranberry and celery leaf carry into more cherry and red currant flavors on the entry. There’s pleasing midpalate weight with plum juice, which leads to a clean, crisp finish blending pink strawberry and watermelon with raspberry acidity.
