88. Trio Vintners 2011 Faraway Vineyard Grenache, Yakima Valley, $26
Karen LaBonte, who defeated ovarian cancer, continues to win with Grenache from Art denHoed’s site in the Rattlesnake Hills above the Yakima Valley. The pick was made Oct. 1 at 25.8 Brix, and she poured the juice into an oak program of new French and two-year-old Hungarian barrels, which creates dark aromas of black cherry, black pepper and toast. That theme continues with a bold entry and lengthy flavors of dark plum, cherry and dark chocolate. This earned a gold medal at the 2014 Walla Walla Valley Wine Competition.
Production: 265 cases
