28. Obelisco Estate 2010 Malbec, Red Mountain, $35

obelisco-estate-malbec-2010Estate fruit is the focus of Doug Long’s efforts on Washington’s Red Mountain, and the wines are poured in his Woodinville tasting room. Hedonistic oak tones create aromas of Belgian chocolate, molasses and black pepper amid the whiffs of dark plum, black cherry, blueberry and cumin notes. Rich chocolate, dark blackberry, plum and cordial cherry flavors dominate the palate. Blueberry and pomegranate acidity adds length to the finish of coffee and crushed walnut. This is a simply gorgeous and delicious example of Malbec with sandy tannins. Enjoy it with London broil or on its own.
