Helix by Reininger 2010 Stillwater Creek Vineyard Merlot, Columbia Valley, $29
Walla Walla wineries make up a handful of the nearly 30 clients for this picturesque site along the Royal Slope in Washington’s Columbia Basin, and the eight blocks of Merlot are planted at 1,500 feet elevation. A cooler vintage combined with older American oak treatment leads to tones of cocoa, coffee, Bing cherry, cherry tomato and tomato vine, backed by food-friendly acidity and moderate tannins.
