Fraser Vineyard 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, Snake River Valley, $28
This tartan-clad brand will be going dark soon as Bev Fraser has retired from vinifying her grapes and now sells her remarkable fruit to Greg Koenig. She continues to sell her remaining inventory in downtown Boise, and this Cabernet Sauvignon is quite a keepsake. Aromas of mocha, roasted almonds and black currant lead to a big, plush entry of black plum, blackberry, boysenberry with touch of maple-smoked bacon. Smooth tannins and low alcohol bode well for the future, but it’s showing quite well already, having earned a gold medal at the 2014 Great Northwest Wine Competition.
