Burnt Bridge Cellars 2014 Seven Hills Vineyard Mourvèdre, Walla Walla Valley, $30
Burnt Bridge co-owners Mark Mahan and Greg Wallace continue to deepen their relationship with the McKibben family, a two-generation growing team that farms Les Collines and Seven Hills Vineyard. The latter is the source of these four barrels of Mourvèdre. This Vancouver, Wash., winery doesn’t single out Mourvèdre for standalone bottlings every vintage, but they achieved the desired results from 2014. Aromas of black cherry, dried blueberry, bittersweet chocolate, caramel and white pepper beckon you into a suave structure with flavors of blueberry, elderberry and spicy plums. It’s backed by another dash of pepper, often a signature of this Rhône variety that’s on the rise in Washington and Idaho.
