82. Eleganté Cellars 2008 Sangiovese, Walla Walla Valley, $26

elegante-sangioveseRetired educator Doug Simmons owns and operates this tiny winery at the Walla Walla Regional Airport, and his Sangiovese consistently earns top marks in our blind tastings. The grapes for this wine come from Blue Mountain Vineyard. It opens with bright aromas of plum, cherry and floral notes. On the palate, it gives way to espresso, pomegranate, cranberry and red currant. A whisper of smokiness adds a touch of complexity, and superb acidity lifts the fruit through the impressive finish.
