Grantwood Winery 2012 Tempranillo, Walla Walla Valley, $19

grantwood-winery-logoFor the second straight year, Walla Walla’s Joe Grant received our top rating for his work with Tempranillo from Les Collines Vineyard. Our records show that he raised the price by $1 and increased production by nine cases from his 2010 vintage with this robust Spanish red grape. There’s a big nose of freshly ground coffee and red cherry, along with blueberry jam, cocoa powder and white pepper. Cherries and dark plums dominate the palate, which features firm, yet smooth tannins, ample acidity and a tarry finish. These limited production wines are only available at the tasting room on Heritage Road west of downtown.

Rating: Outstanding!

Production: 34 cases

Alcohol: 15.1%
