O•S Winery 2013 Sonas Cabernet Sauvignon, Yakima Valley, $25

os-winery-sonas-cabernet-sauvignon-2013-labelOne of the pioneer brands of the Seattle urban winery scene, the Sonas tier was created in 2010, and Scott Greer’s first complete vintage as the winemaker for Peggy Sullivan serves as another example of both his talent and the quality coming from 14-year-old vines from Sheridan Vineyard. The nose comes with a pitch of dark cherry, Marionberry and blueberry, joined by rose petal, tar, a freshly oiled baseball glove and lavender. On the palate, there’s a fruit-forward delivery of dark cherry, black currant and more Marionberry as plum skin tannins and juicy acidity strike a delicious balance. A pinch of white pepper and sprig of mint add complexity to this remarkable drinker that’s a crowd pleaser.
