Sparkman Cellars 2011 Kingpin Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Mountain
Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition award: Gold medal
Winemakers Chris Sparkman and Linn Scott used grapes primarily from famed Klipsun Vineyard, as well as Obelisco on Red Mountain for this powerful Cab. A reticent nose slowly unfolds into layers of cherry, blackberry and blueberry and a whiff of mint. In the mouth, blackberries arrive first, then blueberry and a surprise Bing cherry at the end. Smooth tannins, cedar and a bit of graphite ensure you’ll want another sip soon.
