Dunham Cellars 2010 XVI Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, $45
Great Northwest Invitational Wine Competition award: Gold medal
Winemakers Eric Dunham and Daniel Wampfler brought in grapes from four esteemed vineyards: Lewis, The Benches, Phinny Hill and Frenchtown. Black cherry, leather, pipe tobacco and cedar aromas direct the taster to sit back and enjoy a sip of this. On the palate, it shows off more cherries first, then huckleberries, then blueberries with a dollop of dark chocolate leading to sweet, refined tannins. Next, take the glass to the grill for a hearty steak or sit down with another glass while the prime rib finishes roasting.
Price: $45
Production: 1,459 cases
Alcohol: 13.4%
